Change root domain's authoritative NS away from Cloudflare

Hi,

I am on a free Cloudflare account and my domain registrar is also CF. I am not able to find any settings to change the authoritative Nameservers for domains purchased through CF.

Just like a domain purchase from godaddy can be configured to use CF as its authoritative NS without domain transfer - what I want is exactly opposite - domain purchased via CF to be configured with godaddy’s DNS as authoritative and configure it’s DNSSEC here in CF.

Please help,
Best regards

6.1 in the Domain Registration Agreement states that you cannot change the nameservers:

6.1 Nameservers . Registrant agrees to use Cloudflare’s nameservers. REGISTRANT ACKNOWLEDGES AND AGREES THAT IT MAY NOT CHANGE THE NAMESERVERS ON THE REGISTRAR SERVICES, AND THAT IT MUST TRANSFER TO A THIRD PARTY REGISTRAR IF IT WISHES TO CHANGE NAMESERVERS.

You’ll either need to use Cloudflare’s DNS and get a list of the required records from your host, or transfer your domain elsewhere to change the nameservers.

Thanks for a quick reply Albert.

My actual use-case is that I buy and take care of renewals for 10+ domains of my friends and family. This is easy since they are centrally managed by godaddy’s dashboard; and I have pointed each domain NS to the friend’s individual CF account and they can do as they please thereafter.

CF registrar rates are very attractive so I want to bring all domains to my personal account, however, still want the domains to be pointed to the friend/family’s independent CF accounts so that they can manage only their domains and not require access to mine.

Is there any other way I can achieve this under free tier?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the name servers when using Cloudflare Registrar. Domains have to be registered with the account they are used in.

You can absolutely do this though. You can invite another Cloudflare account to manage a domain that is registered under your account. So each friend could still have access to their domain without requiring full access to your account.
