I’m a bit discouraged with Cloudflare. I thought I was buying a new domain and that Cloudflare could be my new go-to registrar. I’ve got a grand-fathered account with Accuweb for hosting that fairly inexpensive, so I build my websites there. But now I find out I can’t change the nameservers of my new domain? What the heck? Is there any kind of work around, or can I get a refund and register somewhere else?

Since using Cloudflare requires the use of Cloudflare nameservers, you can’t change the nameservers for a domain registered using Cloudflare registrar. This is indicated at the time of purchase.
Normally you just point at your hosting using their A/AAAA/CNAME records in your Cloudflare DNS.
If you have to use different nameservers then you will need to transfer your domain out of Cloudflare after the 60-day transfer lock.
