Can't access Nvidia's website geforce.com when using Cloudflare

Hi, for the past month I was unable to access Nvidia’s geforce.com. Every time it’s entered in the adress bar it returned with DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN.

Is there a reason for that? What do I have to do to find out?

Works fine for me.

Whats the output of the following commands?

nslookup geforce.com 1.1.1.1
nslookup geforce.com 1.0.0.1
nslookup -class=chaos -type=txt id.server 1.1.1.1
nslookup -class=chaos -type=txt id.server 1.0.0.1

The outputs are as follows. Please note that at this point in time I’m using Google’s DNS.

nslookup geforce.com 1.1.1.1

Server: one.one.one.one
Address: 1.1.1.1

Name: geforce.com
Address: 216.228.121.95

nslookup geforce.com 1.0.0.1

Server: one.one.one.one
Address: 1.0.0.1

Name: geforce.com
Address: 216.228.121.95

nslookup -class=chaos -type=txt id.server 1.1.1.1

Server: one.one.one.one
Address: 1.1.1.1

id.server text =

“LCA”

nslookup -class=chaos -type=txt id.server 1.0.0.1

Server: one.one.one.one
Address: 1.0.0.1

id.server text =

“LCA”

You seem to be able to resolve the host via Cloudflare.

Can you open the developers tools in your browser, switch to the network tab, and try to load the page? Then post a screenshot of that.

There you go.

Ehm, where did you load the page?

Apologies, had a brainfart.

Edit: I switched back over to Cloudfare DNS servers for this.

Thats a screenshot of the community here. We obviously need a screenshot of the network requests for the domain in question

Seems to be a local problem?

Then lets try the same once more with

nslookup www.geforce.com 1.1.1.1
nslookup www.geforce.com 1.0.0.1

Both gave me

*** one.one.one.one can't find www.geforce.com: Non-existent domain

Hmm, could you try to run the following command in a Powershell window?

(Invoke-WebRequest -Uri 'https://1.1.1.1/dns-query?ct=application/dns-json&name=www.geforce.com').RawContent

Please give me a few minutes as it needs IE11 to work.

You can also open https://1.1.1.1/dns-query?ct=application/dns-json&name=www.geforce.com in a browser and save the output as a file and post it back here.

I used the -useBasicParsing argument to make it work
Powershell output:

This is through Firefox:

{“Status”: 3,“TC”: false,“RD”: true, “RA”: true, “AD”: false,“CD”: false,“Question”:[{“name”: “www.geforce.com.”, “type”: 1}],“Authority”:[{“name”: “geforce.com.”, “type”: 6, “TTL”: 300, “data”: “infoblox-dns-01.scz.us.nvidia.com. hostmaster.nvidia.com. 2017022613 1800 3600 1209600 300”}]}

Hmm, it fails via plain DNS and via DoH. That would somehow suggest the Cypriot datacentre has some issues resolving that particular hostname.

I’d send an email to [email protected] and point out that www.geforce.com does not seem to resolve via the LCA datacentre.

Also, that email should get you a ticket number, post that back here. @cloonan

All done. I also linked this forum thread in the email. This is the support ticket: [#1693979]
For now I’ll switch over to Google DNS just in case.

Link to ticket for those who can see it:

Bump. I only got bot replies. When I reopened the ticket I got a bot reply again and it closed the ticket.

Thank you @artemymix, it looks like @sandro has walked through troubleshooting this, some more ideas linked in this thread, 1.1.1.1 resolving IP question.

Are you able to use 1.0.0.1 instead of 1.1.1.1?

And, I see your ticket, the engineer responding the last two times is a real person! Can you respond back to them to re-open your ticket and give them requested URL from here, https://cloudflare-dns.com/help/?
