I built a company a new website in 2024 but their domain registration and DNS configuration was still under control of a previous business that built their first website. That business used Cloudflare but closed down a long time ago. Therefore, the current Domain and DNS records for the new website I built are hosted within a Cloudflare account that I do not have access to, nor can I get access to because the business who had the login credentials has closed.
What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?
A lot.
What feature, service or problem is this related to?
Domain name is not registered with Cloudflare Registrar, rather with GoDaddy.
Neither using Cloudflare nameservers anymore.
Registrar: GoDaddy.com, LLC
Name Server: NS25.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
Name Server: NS26.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
If you’re the owner of the domain name, you can register and create a new Cloudflare account, therefrom following the instructions from the below article add a new Website and proceed further with changing domain nameservers at GoDaddy interface and more later on the Cloudflare dashboard, if you’d like to continue using Cloudflare.
Otherwise, the only way you’ll be able to regain access to the Cloudflare account is by having access to the email address of the account or being added as a member of the 2nd (business) CF account (which I am afraid is not a case as well).
These links may help, but they only work when logged out
In case you don’t manage this neither, even the Website could be removed from that Cloudflare account if domain nameservers are pointing away for longer than 7 days, you’d have to figure it out related to getting back the list of old DNS records either via online tool for DNS hisotry, or by contacting Web hosting provider.
