The initial connection between Cloudflare’s network and the origin web server timed out. As a result, the web page can not be displayed.
What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?
I checked my Cloudflare Settings
I checked my Strato (Domain hosted there) Settings
I checked the logs of my webserver (no traffic received)
I called Strato, they told me, that the error is on Cloudflares side and has nothing to do with them
I’ve reviewed the logs for my Apache2 server and observed the following:
When I access the page via hannes-hirsch.de, no entries are logged.
When I visit the webpage using my resolved IP address, the page loads correctly, and a few normal entries appear in the access.log.
The same behavior is observed when I access the webpage using my local IP address.
My only other reference is from this forum discussion, where the Strato Support mentioned (translated via Google Translate):
“… You inquired about using Cloudflare. I ask for your understanding that using Cloudflare is not possible with our hosting and shop packages. External access to the IP address of the domains hosted by us is not permitted. This means that Cloudflare can only be used for DNS management on our virtual and dedicated root servers.”
I will contact Strato now once again to see if they know anything new.
I reached out to Strato, and unfortunately, they were very unfriendly and didn’t make much of an effort to help. They informed me that the problem stems from Cloudflare, which is incorrect. Numerous blog posts and discussions suggest that Strato has known issues with Cloudflare and that their services are not compatible.
Given this limitation, I’ve decided to revert the NS-Records back to Strato to restore full functionality for now. However, this situation has made it clear that I need a more flexible hosting provider, so I plan to switch to another provider that fully supports Cloudflare soon.
Laudian, thank you for offering advice and assistance.
