Cannot Create Load Balancer

Hi,

Testing Cloudflare. Created WEB site, tested fine.

Went to Traffic / Load Balancing. Activated load balancing, paid $5.00. Went through the wizard, cannot save as I am getting the popup at the bottom of the page which disappears almost momentarily. It states approximately this, “Invalid load balancer name: only ADCII letters, digits, and ‘_-.’ are allowed in name: validation failed (Code: 1002)” Saving as draft fails with the same message. Nothing in the documentation or on the forum. Tried changing all names I was able to find, still negative.

Any ideas?

Thank you,
Vladimir

Welcome to the Cloudflare Community. :logodrop:

Does the name contain a space?

What name are you talking about? All names I was able to locate do not contain anything but ASCII.

Thank you,
Vladimir

The Cloudflare document https://developers.cloudflare.com/load-balancing/get-started/quickstart/ contains 14 instances of word “name”, but none of them refer to the Load Balancer name.

Vladimir

Can you share a name you are trying? And, can you try from an incognito browser?

Once again, there is no name. Please read my messages. I will try incognito now.

Vladimir

Same negative with “Private” mode in Safari.

And let me reiterate, there is no Load Balancer name field to fill out.

If you go to Load Balancing and select Create Load Balancer,

Do you see this screen?

If so, the name is the .example.com part, I replaced your hostname with that example text.

Yes, I do. Are you saying the Hostname == Load Balancer name?

I need to cover *.hostname.tld. Is that what the error message refers to?

Thank you,
Vladimir

Can you pass to development to change the caption from “Hostname” to “Hostname (Load Balancer Name)” or something of that nature?

Alternatively, the error message could contain a little bit more content and not disappear after showing up for 10 seconds.

BTW, “*.hostname.tld” worked. I used “@.hostname.tld” initially which failed. I out it there as a placeholder to change later.

The reason I am providing these details is to make sure the error message includes “*” as an allowed symbol.

Thank you,
Vladimir

You’d want to enter a name like blog.example.com and then follow the rest of the wizard prompts. This doc walks through the steps, Manage load balancers · Cloudflare Load Balancing docs, that may help to visualize/anticipate these steps once you enter the hostname

This is the document referenced in this thread, post #5. Unfortunately it did not help me.

I hope my comments will be passed to the respective development team. In the worst case this thread could help somebody stumbling into the same blocks in the future.

The case can be closed now.

Thank you,
Vladimir

Downtheline note, this is a helpful getting started point for load balancers,
