Cannot add DNS records with the same name ! please help!

What is the name of the domain?

ayeshastclare.com

What is the issue you’re encountering

Cannot add DNS records with the same name says delete/edit the existing record but I’ve already deleted it. I deleted it and now I’m trying to add the cname record again but it’s not allowing me to

this sounds kind of frantic but I’m just so frustrated :sob::sob::sob:

There’s probably a DNS record of another type (not CNAME) with the same name. CNAME is pretty picky in that no other record can have the same name.

Please post a screenshot of your entire DNS records list (just the first two columns: Type and Name), so we can see what may be interfering.

I was able to add the cname oncnod BUT by editing one of the other DNS records. not sure if that was a mistake or not, because I can’t re-add the A record now. will post a screenshot now + the error message I’m getting

Ok, that message is accurate. The “root” means the domain name, so setting an A record for @ is the same as setting it to ayeshastclare.com, which is what that CNAME record already has.

The IP address you’re using for the A record belongs to Cloudflare, so that’s probably not the correct approach.

Are you sure that’s the correct spelling for the domain name? That domain doesn’t seem to exist.

yeah I’m having trouble with too. I’m doing it through carrd, emailed them about why the domain hasn’t initialised yet and they said it’s likely that the DNS records were entered incorrectly. actually, I checked the email and they said “misconfigured”

Domains can’t rely on DNS in order to initialize in the registry. DNS doesn’t work until the domain exists.

that sounded dismissive, but I really appreciate your help! thank you!

I apologize if that came off as disrespectful.

When registering a domain name, it’s not possible to do standard DNS lookups, since the the DNS system doesn’t know which name servers are assigned to the domain. Those name servers would be assigned to a domain once it’s registered.

While it’s possible to manually look for DNS records at your future name servers, that’s not a practice I’ve ever heard of as part of a domain registration.

Once that domain is registered, please do let us know if you run into any DNS issues, and we can certainly re-check your DNS.
