Hi, I can’t register my domain and I think I know why. I just want to clarify. I just want to use Cloudflare as a security measure on my website. Is it possible to use another web hosting service to create my website (the text, the content), and use Cloudflare as a backend security measure? Also, to do this, can I add two different nameservers to my domain management? (For example, can I have two nameservers from a website builder, then two nameservers from Cloudflare? I think my issue is that I can’t have two different companies’ nameservers.)
Two different sets of nameservers won’t work. You’d need to use Cloudflare’s nameservers and then ask your host for a list of DNS records that you can set in the Cloudflare dashboard.
What do you mean? Is there a way I put a set my website builder’s nameservers in Cloudflare? I always thought you can put two companies nameservers so both of the services can edit my website. I am using infinity free.
No.
Nameservers do not determine who can edit a website.
The nameservers determine who serves your DNS, the records you set up at your DNS provider determine where the site is hosted. So in this case Cloudflare would be your DNS provider and you would add DNS records to point to your host.
You can using a hidden primary which requires an Enterprise plan or by using a CNAME setup which requires a business plan. In the former scenario you manage DNS from your nameservers and it replicates to your published Cloudflare servers. In the latter you point CNAMES to cloudflare specific naming conventions which are resolved by Cloudflare to your origin servers.
