We are wondering if it is necessary, or advisable, to purge all cache after the upgrade of a Magento (Adobe Commerce) website. We are not moving the domain, or changing servers, just upgrading all the software and templates.

Great question, yes you should purge cache is the short answer, longer discussion here

So if you did not force html caching, you don’t need to purge the cache for normal content updates like blog posts.

You would usually purge the cache if you make changes to the site itself, like changing the theme.

That depends, good discussion

When you purge the cache it is not automatically “synced back”. Objects are cached after the first request through a data center for that object. If there are no requests to your site from a particular POP then there is nothing cached in that POP.
