Bluehost & Cloudflare proxied = "Can't find the server"

My domain is registered with a 3rd party registrar that points the domain to CF. The web host is Bluehost.

When I proxy the IPs through CF, the site does not load. If I set the proxy status on CF to DNS Only, the site runs fine, and on Bluehost’s automatically installed Let’s Encrypt SSL. I want, however, to use Cloudflare’s many great features which I can’t at the moment since the moment I Proxy the IP, bad things happen. Here’s the report from the Bluehost tech:

“Yes. The [Cloudflare] SSL settings are not updating properly. The website showing SSL error even when the SSL status is set to Off and the site started working fine once the DNS are pointed directly to the Bluehost server without making any changes.
It seems to be an issue with the Cloudflare.”

Suggestions?

Can you be more specific? Or post a screenshot?

Well, now I feel foolish… The http version loads fine when proxied, but the https version gives the error:

This site can’t provide a secure connection

mydomain.ca uses an unsupported protocol.

It could be that the cert hasn’t been properly issued. Without an actual domain name, I can’t troubleshoot this, but this article may help:

Thanks very much! It was this portion of the article that resolved the issue… so strange, but your help is much appreciated!

  1. Grey-cloud/deactivate Cloudflare so that the website uses the origin’s SSL certificate
  1. Re-start the process
  • Go to SSL/TLS app on your Cloudflare dashboard and scroll down to the bottom
  • Click the Disable Universal SSL
  • Wait for a few minutes then click the Enable Universal SSL
