Hi. I tried add 11 domains to cloudflare but get response {“code”:1117,“message”:“You have exceeded the rate limit for adding or deleting zones. Please try again in 1 hour.”} . Can i know why i get this error?
What limits have I violated? Another time i tried add 27 domains and it works. What do the limits depend on and how big are they?
Athough an old post, this is something I’m running into in the last few days.
You have exceeded the rate limit for adding or deleting zones. Please try again in 1 hour.
OK, “wait 1 hour” you say, but I’m updating the A records ~1200+ domains to point to a new IP address. This involves listing the A records to get the identifiers, deleting the identiers and re-recreating them. Updating (rather than delete, create) often did not work and I ended up with duplicates.
The result? It’s taken me over 24 hours so far to get this job done, as I am hitting this rate limit very quickly, after maybe 100 API requests, which means updating… 20 domains at a time.
I can understand why CF has a rate limit on this for abuse, but it seems the limit is the same across accounts regardless of how many websites you have.
Also, the rate limit is applied to my IP address, not my account; my websites are spread across 6 CF accounts.
May I suggest that CF work on this rule to take a few more factors into account? It’s perhaps been a long time since the limits were set and probably prior to launching the registrar product- which will attract domainers because of the pricing. These limits affect those of us with a large amount of websites (domains) with cloudflare.
