Android: MASQUE disconnects on idle and prevents notications

What is the name of the domain?

WARP+

What is the error message?

DNS Resolver: onErrorResumeNext - (dnsoverwarpudp): exception - java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Poll timed out and message: Poll timed out and queryName: connectivity.cloudflareclient.com, fallbackServerListSize: null | class com.cloudflare.app.vpnservice.exceptions.ConnectionException: UDP call timeout

What is the issue you’re encountering

Using Warp (PLUS) with MASQUE. The connection is dropped when the Android phone’s screen is turned off. This results in the device being offline when idle and apps are unable to send notications of any kind.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

The issue happens on both DNS settings: DNS over WARP or DNS over HTTPS.

Switching to WireGuard resolves the issue.
However, when using WG the status page no longer shows Warp PLUS, so I’m basically not getting what I’m paying for, so this is not an acceptable solution.

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

The disconnect can easily be seen on the diagnosis page:

  1. Connect WARP with MASQUE.
  2. Transfer some data (eg. speedtest)
  3. Open Diagnosis page. Transferred data should be > 1 MB
  4. Turn off screen / put phone to idle.
  5. Wait at least 10 seconds but no longer than 60 seconds needed.
  6. Turn on screen.
  7. Diagnosis page will be refreshed, transferred data only showing a few KB.
(If you’re fast, you might see “Connection OFF” on top, before it immediately reconnects.)

Using: Android 14 on Samsung Galaxy S23
This issue happens on both:
Warp+: 1.1.1.1 app, version 6.38.2
Zero Trust: Cloudflare One app, version 2.4

Any news / comment on when there will be an Android update?? A similar sounding bug just got fixed on Windows but there’s no acknowledging of this issue on Android anywhere. Blocking app notifications is a severe bug and should be addressed as soon as possible.

And discarding the paid plan on WireGuard is unacceptable business practice.
