An A, AAAA or CNAME record already exists with that host. (Code: 81053)

Ugh…please help.

I am trying to follow the instructions listed here and I’m getting the following error message when trying to add the DNS records.

An A, AAAA or CNAME record already exists with that host. (Code: 81053)

I hadn’t yet entered anything for Teachable prior to reaching this step today.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

Please help!

Assuming that what you are trying to do is point your root domain (brainiate.acedmy) to brainiate-academy.teachable.com you already have 8 records for brainiate.academy. You would need to delete the 4 A records and 4 AAAA records for that same host name which already exist to instead point to teachable.com.

Thanks for the quick reply…but that did not seem to work, as you can see from the attached screenshot below.

I deleted all A and AAAA records, and I am still getting the same error message.

Any ideas?

You’re trying to add a CNAME for www when you already have a CNAME for www that points to Google.

Right, before you were trying to add the root domain, not the www. You should now be able to add the root domain (you can use an @ to represent that for the name).

Thanks. I deleted the CNAME and I was able to successfully update it. Thanks so much!
