All Australian websites not routing via Cloudflare

We have 2 servers in Digital Pacific dedicated in Sydney. All websites behind Cloudflare are giving error 522 and not working. This applies for all websites running on Cloudflare there appears to be a routing issue with Cloudflare not working with Digital Pacific.

To add further to the above all websites not behind CF are working fine on the above mentioned. Digital Pacific have advised the issue is with Cloudflare. However it is not all networks in Australia. Telstra networks appear to be fine. Also if accessing the same websites from another country (i.e. via a different Cloudflare netwok say phillipines) the sites are all working fine and no 522 error.

We are having the same problem. All non Cloudflare sites are loading. It seems traffic is being dropped somewhere along the network when it comes from Cloudflare.

However, it does work while browsing from my 4G phone. If I look at the /cdn-cgi/trace/ url traffic fails when it goes through the KIX colo but works when it goes through SIN or BNE.

Was Digital Pacific able to tell you where the traffic was dropped?

Hi @tsteel yes! Exact same issue. Great I am not mad. Yes working from Tesltra 4G mobile data fine. No issues. Also it appears to be only non Telstra networks that I am aware of . Client advised Vodafone mobile worked then did not . But Telstra networks all appears to be fine. We also have another VPS for another client on vultr behind cloudflare. It even has a firewall rule to only accept http/https from CF ips only and its working fine. No issues. I believe they are on Telstra backbone however as well. It appears to be routing issue from CF to Digital Pacific (or their providers connection). Can I ask which hosting service provider you are with ? By any chance Digital Pacific as well?

FYI and no DP response and support was dismal and I copy and paste below:
Thanks for contacting us.

Cloudflare is currently experiencing an outage that is causing many customers to have issues accessing their sites.

We’d recommend temporarily unproxying the DNS A records in Cloudflare to enable direct communication with our servers.

Both the above 2 links provided are dismal response as none show any outages from CF . So I want to see if others are impacted are only DP customers as well before going back to them.

We’re with Crucial which I believe is owned by Digital Pacific. Support hasn’t been helpful. I’ve logged a ticket with Cloudflare. Hopefully they can point us in the right direction to give Crucial a nudge.

I believe this may be a DP network issue possibly. Starting to make sense here. its not KIX. As I explained above have customer on VULTR (Sydney DC) and its working fine. And behind CF with over 20 sites on the VPS no issues. However I noticed one diff in the trace… TLS

Example working VULTR / CF combo:
uag=Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/86.0.4240.111 Safari/537.36

Not working DP + CF combo:
uag=Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/86.0.4240.111 Safari/537.36

however the diff noticed is tls=TLSv1.3 wondering if issue. But both colo=KIX

KIX and SYD colo fails for us. The BNE and SIN colo appear to be working.

There’s definitely a network issue in between Cloudflare and Digital Pacific which is dropping the traffic. The trouble is trying to identify that network and get them to allow the traffic through :expressionless:

Hi Guys

I am a System administrator here at Hostopia (owner of Digital Pacific and Crucial). Our network team is currently investigating this issue, Once I have more informaiton I will post here.

@robbie6 awesome thanks kindly! and please do keep us posted.

@tsteel we appear to be back online now and issue resolved? You? We appear to of been on SYD now and its working for us. @robbie6 can we get update on issue how was resolved. Cheers.

It’s working for us now too. Glad that’s over :slight_smile:

Keen to hear what happened @robbie6

Our network engineers are still investigating however currently, we have not detected any issues within our network. They are trying to find what the cause was. We’re glad to hear it’s working for you again and thank you for the feedback.

Cheers - be interesting to know what happened!

Doesn’t look like this issue is resolved yet. We have just been advised by Crucial (Digital Pacific, etc) that the major performance problems on our website are related to this problem with Cloudflare.
