I cannot update my DNS records because my account is perpetually stuck in pending state. Now, they want me to update my nameservers again, which I didc months ago, but there is no way to do it.
What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?
Tried to find a way to raise a ticket but apparently a free account cannot do that. GREAT customer service.
What are the steps to reproduce the issue?
Log into my original host (Microsoft) and they redirect me to Cloudflare who now appears to be holding my domain hostage.
I can see that this domain is active in one account and has also been added to a second account. Can you check to make sure you are logged into the correct account that you used to buy the domain?
The domain was originally purchased (and the DNS was hosted) through Microsoft using one email address. That was several years ago. More recently, Microsoft has gotten out of the business of DNS hosting and is forcing all users to migrate to other options. The default option they recommend is Cloudflare, which is the option I chose. So I had to create a new Cloudflare account to access and update my DNS settings. When I created that Cloudflare account, I used a different email address.
However, I apparently waited more than 30 days after starting this process with Cloudflare and it has now locked my account in a pending state. I do not know what to do to break through the situation and get it corrected and their site offers no help.
I’ve checked all of my other email accounts and do not have an account with any of them at Cloudflare. I suspect that what you’re seeing is that I purchased the domain through Microsoft with one email address and then tried to move the DNS from Microsoft to Cloudflare (at their prompting) and opened a Cloudflare account with a second email address. And now I’m stuck.
No, that is completely unrelated. What I’m seeing is that there are two Cloudflare accounts using your domain, one active, and one with pending nameservers.
Did you check that you received the invoice for the domain transfer to the same address that you are now using to log in?
I definitely do not have a second Cloudflare account. I’m attaching three screenshots for reference. I will attach one screenshot per reply as it only allows me to include one per message.
The DNS management screen from my Microsoft 365 account which indicates that my DNS is now managed at Cloudflare
The page that comes up at Cloudflare when clicking the link at Microsoft 365. This page includes all the DNS settings but also includes a warning that my (free) account is in pending state until I complete the questions at the Overview page.
The overview page which says I need to update my nameservers at my registrar. But my registrar was Microsoft (originally) and I already updated the name servers to be at Cloudflare and Cloudflare doesn’t give me an option to update the nameservers.
I do not have a second Cloudflare account.
I bought my domain through Microsoft with one email address. I set up my Cloudflare account with a different email address. I do not have an invoice from Cloudflare as I am operating under a free account.
Your domain is registered using Cloudflare Registrar. You should have an invoice for the payment you made for that registration term.
When a domain is registered using Cloudflare Registrar, you cannot change the nameservers. One of the most common causes of seeing the Pending status on a domain that uses Cloudflare Registrar is due to accidentally adding it to another account unintentionally. Attempting account recovery from an incognito browsing session is a good way to identify the account where the domain is currently active.
If you don’t have any luck with that, you will need to open a Registrar support request.
I’m afraid your website will not let me access the original ticket I logged so I hope this will reach someone who can assist.
Per your request, it is not possible for me to update the name servers. When Microsoft, the original registrar, had me migrate my DNS settings to Cloudflare, that process included updating my name servers to Cloudflare nameservers which has already occurred. The nameservers Cloudflare originally assigned which I used were:

Now, you’re asking me to update the nameservers again but that’s not possible for me to do at your system. So, please dive into my account and see if you can fix it for me to remove it from pending state.
