Is it possible to access the original (invariant) image that I uploaded to images? I can only find links to variants.

Sorry, but once you’ve uploaded an image, it’s not available for direct download.
I agree that it should be possible to download the same source image that was originally uploaded. It would be important should you ever decide to move away from Cloudflare Images.
