Access DNS already using CloudFlare NS

I recently took over managing a domain for a large non profit organization and am trying to update the DNS record which already uses Cloudflare nameservers.

The domain is american-rhinologic.org

I started by reaching out to the place where the domain is registered, and they told me that they can’t update the DNS for me. That I needed to do it through Cloudflare. They did share with me that the current nameservers are “igor” and “vita”.

So how can I access and update my existing DNS record on Cloudflare? I created a free account and added my domain, but it’s asking me to change the nameservers to use Cloudflare. But my domain is already using Cloudflare nameservers, just not the ones that the dashboard is asking for.

I’m not very good with this stuff so I’m not sure what to do at this point as I am able to see the DNS records for my site but I can’t get any changes to update right now, I assume because my domain isn’t using the nameservers its asking for.

Thanks!

If the domain has Cloudflare nameservers, then it is already in a Cloudflare account. Creating another Cloudflare account for yourself won’t help access the current DNS.

You can try to recover the account by following these instructions in case the email goes to someone with the organisation, or they need to find out who ran the account…

If that’s not successful, then your only option is to take control of the DNS by changing the nameservers at the registrar (hoping you have access to the registrar account) and pointing them at those requested for the new Cloudflare account, or another DNS provider. Note that the current DNS record that you can’t look up (either because they are proxied, or are not known) you’ll need to find out such as who is the web host. (Mail is through Google).

This may be the host…

Welcome to the Cloudflare Community. :logodrop:

If you want to access the existing data, you will need to log in to the correct Cloudflare account, not rhe one you just created.

The only way you’ll be able to regain access is by having access to the email address of the account.

These links may help, but they only work when logged out

If you know the email: https://dash.cloudflare.com/forgot-password
If you know the email and have 2FA issues: https://dash.cloudflare.com/login-help
If you don’t know the email: https://dash.cloudflare.com/forgot-email

If you are unable to recover your account, you will need to start over from scratch in a new account. That can be a disruptive process if not done correctly. If this domain is important, you may want to hire a consultant that is experienced with managing DNS.
