I changed the IP address on my domain name, but it’s not propagating

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Waited an appropriate time for it to take effect.

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

I still see 104.199.122.56 even after 12+ hours.

The DNS record is proxied so will always show a Cloudflare IP address, see here…

If you want to see the IP address as you have set it then change the record to “DNS only”. Requests will then go direct to your origin and not pass through Cloudflare, so no Cloudflare protections or features will be applied to those requests.

So if I want Cloudflare protections I can only host my website with Cloudflare? That doesn’t seem right. How do other people do it?

No, you don’t host your site with Cloudflare, you proxy requests through it - Cloudflare sits between your users and your origin. Read the link about how Cloudflare works that I posted.

I’ve read that page, and I understand how proxies work. But that page tells me nothing more than how proxies work. How do I get my site to load at the server of my choosing? How do I tell cloudflare where it is?

You are doing that already using the Cloudflare DNS. Your choice is whether to use the proxy (in which case DNS requests will always return Cloudflare IP addresses) or not (to return the IP address you have set and bypass Cloudflare).

Ok, if I’m already doing that, why isn’t it working?

Sorry, just seen…

…which isn’t a Cloudflare proxy IP as I assumed it was (Cloudflare uses a lot of 104.x.x.x as does Google).

Should always use my own tool…

Can you show a screenshot of your domain overview page from the dashboard, including the top bar? Which Cloudflare nameservers are shown at the bottom of the DNS page?

You are not in the account where your domain is currently “Active”. You are adding the domain to a different account where the status is currently “Finish setup”.

You either need to log in to the account where your domain is already active
or
If you want to use this new account, you need to select a plan so “Finish setup” changes to “Pending”, and change the nameservers at your registrar from lynn and roxy to harlee and otto as shown in your screenshot.

Ok, so I logged into my clients account, didn’t see his domain names that he has set up, so I searched for them, and found them. I edited them, and now we’re here. So apparently this is NOT my client’s stuff? How do I delete this mess I’ve made and how do I find his stuff? I don’t see a delete option for the domains I found in the search.

I’m not quite sure what you’ve done from what you are saying, but I guess you have just gone into the wrong account and added the domain there. Assuming you actually wanted to edit the DNS where the domain is actually active, nothing has broken as that zone is not the active one. You can remove the new zone you’ve created, or just leave it in the “Setup” state and it will delete in 28 days.

You just then need to locate the account where the domain is active and make the changes to the DNS there instead.
