522 error on aws ec2

What were you trying to do?

I’m brand new to using Cloudflare, and want to connect an existing domain name to my ec2 instance.

How did you attempt to do it?

I have set an A name for the root path of my domain name to connect to the public IP of my instance.
Later I set up an ELB on AWS and set a CNAME address on Cloudflare to the address of the ELB as advised in this guide: AWS EC2, Elastic Load Balancers, and CloudFlare – MadisonBahmer.com
so far, I can’t get anything to load when I go to my domain name

What actually happened?

When I try to connect, I get a 522 error. I can go to the address of my ELB and it works just fine, but when I try to go to the domain name I want to be using it fails with a 522.

What did you expect to happen?

My website is a small test page that I intend to flush out more fully once I get it to load in the first place. Its just a single html file with a css file. It shouldn’t take much to load it.

How can we reproduce the issue?

Additional Notes

I have read the community tips about 522s and errors in general and cant get anything listed there to work.
