added a new CNAME record. in this case film-location. point it to film-location.pages.dev. DNS and site are hosted by cloudflare

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

remove and re-add the CNAME record.

NOTE. all previously added CNAME records pointing to cloudflare pages sites working fine.
I wonder has the problem got anything to do with automatic SSL cert issued?

Don’t add the CNAME yourself to the DNS. Add film-location.investlincolnshire.co.uk as a custom domain to Pages as here, and that will also create the DNS record for you.
