3rd Party is saying we have AAAA records set up

Here is what they asked to be setup:
Type: A-Record
Name: @
Value: 141.193.213.10

Type: CNAME
Name: www
Value: the non-www version of your purchased URL

Here is a screenshot of our DNS Setting in Cloudflare:

They say we have not done this correctly and that we have an AAAA record. Can anyone advise what to do here? I sent them a screenshot of what I shared here, and they did a DNS search, and it showed AAAA record(s) _ I tried duplicating their result by using DNS Checker… and it showed no AAAA record but said there was no CNAME yet I did add one as you see in the DNS Setting image. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

All of that is to be expected (Not seeing CNAME records, seeing AAAA records).

I recommend you read the following link to understand why this happens, but the short version is that everything is as it should be.

The only thing I notice is that you have 2 NS records that you could probably delete.

Thank you, Laudian! If I change the proxied DNS setting to DNS Only, will that change things?

Yes, but then you wouldn’t be using Cloudflare anymore.

Is there a reason you want to disable the proxy, other than someone telling you that you did something wrong? Is something not working as expected?

Only thought that this would help. What do you think is causing then to see AAAA record (s)?

When your domain is proxied, Cloudflare will publish records with their own IP addresses instead of yours (and then forward the requests to your server).

Cloudflare does use IPv6 for their servers, so it is completely normal that others see AAAA records when looking up your domain. Requests to your server are still made using IPv4 though.

Are they just telling you that you did something wrong, or are there any actual problems?

Thanks again.

This was there exact response

Unfortunately, this is not something I can assist with. I an showing you have AAAA records and your A record and CNAME are not pointing correctly. The only thing I can recommend is reaching out to your domain provider to see if they can assist

When your Site works normally i would ignore the Message. When their are Problems its possible that you are forced to remove the Proxy from the Record. Some Hosts sadly dont work correctly with Cloudflare Proxy enabled because their System will not enable your Site if they dont see the correct IP Adresses. Whats the Name of your Host? Maybe its a Host that we know of

It’s my wife’s site. The company she works with provides a website that she will be using, and she wants her domain to work with that site. They ask us to make these changes to the DNS so they can Map the site. They don’t give any support on this outside if saying what they said.

So should I remove the proxies and make them DNS only, and what should I tell them about the AAAA records they are seeing and that the CNAME and A record are not pointing correctly, or will changing to DNS only for A Record and CNAME fix that?

Then the easiest way would be disable the Proxy when they only want it that way yes. So turning the :orange: Cloud to :grey:

This will remove the Cloudflare Records and will show the DNS Records exactly like you configured it. The AAAA Record will get removed and the www Record will be a CNAME of the Root Domain

Ok, I just checked the IP from your starting post. It is a WP Engine IP, which means they are already using Cloudflare.

I don’t know why you were asked to add the A record you mentioned, but that server is not configured to handle your domain. Neither the apex nor the www name is set up.

Did you follow the procedures outlined in this guide to add your domain? When you get to that step, you’ll really want to use the CNAME method, not the A record method that you tried here (It would work, but the CNAME method is more reliable for the future).

Thank you. They specifically ask us to do the following.

We recommend that you work with your domain provider to point the domain to our servers, as we cannot help troubleshoot issues during this DIY step. Please modify your DNS records rather than forwarding your domain.

Please adjust your DNS records to the following:

Type: A-Record
Name: @
Value: 141.193.213.10

Type: CNAME
Name: www
Value: the non-www version of your purchased URL

…,

Your can see what I had done from the previous attachment. I went in and also change to DNS only for the CNAME and the A record. I believe we did what they asked for. Do you agree?

If you are a WP Engine customer directly, you need to follow the steps in the link from my previous post.

If you are using some other service that uses WP Engine in turn, then they need to follow the steps in that article.

Right now, the server is not configured to serve your domain. The problem is with WP Engine, not with your DNS records.

They are probably not because:

Maybe they waited that the Records changed to the ones Provided by them before they activate the Domain within WPEngine. Best would be to write them that you now have the DNS Records they asked for and that they should check now.

@user11580 probably has no further access to do anything himself
