For few weeks now, I encounter issues using 220.127.116.11 or 18.104.22.168 as my DNS server.
Everything actually works well, but after a random time, all my DNS requests timeout and I can’t ping these IPs. Then, after a few tries, it works again.
Here a trace route capture during the problem. I don’t know from where the problem comes from.
Thanks for your help.
For this particular trace it would appear as if the issue was with your own ISP. The first hops already time out and the third hop is eventually reachable only after a second.
I must add that disconnect and reconnect the WiFi connection on which these DNS servers are configured also resolves this issue. But, it happens so often that it is not good workaround
Waow, that was a quick reply
So, I’m screwed?
Does the trace always look like that when it does not work?
Can you post a regular traceroute too?
Here’s a regular one.
“LIVEBOX” is the router my ISP provided me with.
In that case I’d almost think it is your router.
You could run these commands (in parallel) whenever it stops working
and that might give you a hint where it actually stops.
I’ll give it a try as soon as it stops working.
So, I’ve tried to ping my router and indeed it does timeout.
Need to reset it, or change it I guess. ISPs’ routers tend to be not reliable at all.
Thank you anyway
